Our first project to commence following the COVID 19 shutdown takes us to an industrial estate on the edge of Norwich. Our client acquired a unit on the estate earlier in the year and has appointed us to help them completely remodel and refurbish it into a mix of warehouse, workshop and office space.
The project got off to a good start back in March, with us working closely with the client advising on possible internal layouts. One of the reasons for our client wanting to move their expanding business was so that they could benefit from larger premises, so it was vitally important to design a new space that works well for them and meets their business needs. Unfortunately, it was at this point that the project was forced to pause temporarily, following government advice for the country to go into a national lockdown due to COVID 19.
Two and a half months on, we are pleased to report that the project is up and running again. The final layout has been agreed and approved by all parties, and we’re now back on site. The first stage of our programme of works has involved stripping the warehouse back to its original shell. Before being acquired by our client, the warehouse was being used as a vehicle service repair centre and, although empty on acquisition, there were still plenty of reminders of its previous use. This has meant removing a vast amount of cables, fans and pipework, as well as internal walls, doors and ceilings.
The new layout will feature a mix of warehouse, laboratory and office space, covering two floors. The next stages of the works will see our roofing colleagues repair the roof and roof lighting imminently, before we begin erecting a large mezzanine floor, which will span the length and breadth of most of the warehouse. Internal walls and partitions will be constructed throughout the first and ground floors to create the various workspaces required by the client. We will then install new electrical, mechanical and air conditioning services. Finally, we will complete the project by decorating throughout and by laying a mix of vinyl and carpet tile flooring in the offices.
It’s always nice to be part of a project where we’re involved from the design stage all the way through to completion. It was a shame that it was forced to stall for a couple of months but we’re pleased to be up and running again and are looking forward to helping our client create a new home for their business in the coming months.
